Scudder mantis
Oligonicella scudderi
(10-12-07)
Thanks again to the mantis forum which give me a chance to meet another mantis hobbyist around this area (Houston). This time
it is a little different because Justin has a species he was unsure of (Usually I meet up with hobbyist purely for them to pick up the
mantis only). From his description it sounds like a grass mantis (
Thesprotia graminis). Since i am looking for a non-climbing
roaches and he has some turkish roach, we decided to meet up for a trade. However, as soon as he brought the mantis out, it
looks like a new species i have only seen on internet. It is an adult male of
Oligonicella sp. Most likely O. scudderi which can be
found across the South-Eastern of US, ranging from East of Texas to Florida. Now there is also another species name
Oligonicella
mexicana
but since this species is predominantly found in Arizona only, chances are that we have a scudder mantis!
