TAMU insect collection 2008
MANTIDS RELATED PICS
What a nice shield mantis
species!!
Florida bark mantis!!
Some mantis we can
find here in Texas,
the all female stick
mantis.
Now this one has quite
a shield!!
Now i am not sure if all of them should be in this
genus, the bottom left looks more like a
Zoolea
sp.
while the top row could be Vates sp.
Hmmm.... i thought this species
supposed to have small wing, even
for the male?
Opss.. where is the head?
maybe the female got it!!
Now i don't understand why the long
stick-looking mantis is unidentified when they
have labeled bunch of this species as
Brunneria borealis on the other display box.
That is the longest one i see in the collection box for mantis,
someone borrow me a measurement and it came out to be
slightly more than 6 inches!! It is from Cameroon.
The mantis on the bottom
right is about 5 inches, that
is one bulky mantis!!
Now i really wonder if that is a mantis (bottom right on
the left pic), if that is one, i really wonder how many
species of mantis Texas really have.
That is the largest bark mantis i have ever
seen, slightly above 3 inches!!
That is me pulling out one of
the many mantis boxes.
My son had fun showing the Texas unicorn
to one of the visitor. Yeah is good to have a
live specimen in the exhibition after looking
at hundred of thousands of dried specimen.
Never ending rows of
cabinets.... it will take me
weeks to carefully look at all
the display specimens.
